I agree!

I loved A Romance in Lower Mathematics, although I liked The Bear That Wasn't better (book too!) :D

Me too. All my Zelda game files are called "Link". It feels wrong otherwise!

I don't know. Let's ask our husbands!

So? Write a story with a female lead then if it bothers you oh-so much.

OP 111

(Anonymous) 2008-07-07 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. :D

Characters themselves are just an extension of the writer’s personality. Gender roles don’t play a role in the narrative unless gender roles itself is a theme in the narrative. Pixar movies, for example, have nothing to say on gender roles and hence there’s no message whatsoever about male superiority.

Narrative intention is basically the core idea behind storytelline.

He is just an extension of the main narrative purpose. Female characters are no different.

Pretty ridiculous claim to make about stories that are centred on human growth (i.e. of the main character)

ALREADY FRIENDED! OH SNAP!

Neither is better. Pushing for equal representation isn't saying that one is better.

134, 140, 153 and 157.

134~ ANOTHER BUSTER KEATON FAN WHAT? :D :D :D Is that a scene from "Battling Butler?"

140~ Fellow B&B fan here, but I've asked that question several times myself in regards to Xaldin/Belle. ;[

153~ Can't unsee it! And it's... pretty feasible. :O

157~ O hay, that's my birthday.

This is the best secret I have EVER SEEN.

I might take f!s off my friend list. It just... isn't gonna get any better than this.

That can be an admirable trait, the ability to successfully sell the hell out!

By equal you mean less male leads because "there's not enough".

Sexism works both ways.

Really? The only Pixar film I can recall that had that problem was the first Toy Story movie, and that was remedied by its sequel with Jessie.

133. HOLY HELL YES. BE MY FRIEND PLEASE.

...Be the Muscular Beaver to my Baron Once-Bad-Then-Good-Again-Beaver. Haha.

I can't completely agree with this. Elastigirl/Mrs. Incredible, Jessie, Eve, I'm sure there are more I'm not thinking of. They all did as much if not more than Dory (who is also awesome).

107. that movie still gives me the creeps and I saw it during the opening weekend. Scariest movie I've seen in a lonnnnng time. D:

er, read that as "second", I can't type today

OPINIONS LAWL

It's honestly much better to Gunbuster and Diebuster even if it is indeed inferior to End of Evangelion and FLCL. The writing is top-notch in terms of delivery, dialog construction and structure and the overall visual design is excellent.

Re: 129

(Anonymous) 2008-07-07 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU! You explained it better than I could have.

Re: 129

(Anonymous) 2008-07-07 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Characters are just an extension of a narrative intention. Their sex is not important, only their emotions are. A good story shouldn't require determined "protagonist" for it to be attractive.

I don't have anyone in real life either, so I look up to him... he seems to have been where I am right now. One of those "it's nice to know I'm not the only one" scenarios.

That, and I've met him before and he was really nice to me.
