It has nothing to do with sexism, it's just about what makes money.

This was my point. It seemed like the OP of 129 wanted an answer, so I provided one.

Of course, the way that people raise their children has more to do with it (if more people bought "boy toys" for their girls, things would be different). It's evidence of a larger problem than just OMG CORPORATE AMERICA.

129. Check out the latest PiQ magazine. The article they have about Wall-E also has little snippets about upcoming Pixar films. If I remember right, at least one has a girl as the main character.

The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics by Norton Juster, author of The Phantom Tollbooth. "To the vector belongs the spoils." It's awesome!!

I KNOW. I felt like a twelve-year-old school girl with a crush on a boy in the front row of her math class. XD;

[identity profile] elyssadc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that the whole point of what's wrong with society's views on media? It's assumed that men are universally acceptable and women are a niche market. That has been proven to be bullshit over and over and over again, but the movie/tv makers keep saying it and we keep accepting it. Fuck them. Boys (and girls) will continue to assume that girls can't be the heroes until we SHOW them that's not true.

Seriously. Donna got fucking shafted. >|

(Anonymous) 2008-07-08 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, that's a little unfair. Akihiko Yoshida did some incredible designwork over the course of his career, but all you can show for him is Assley Riot and the retools for FF12? Stretching it a bit there, compadre. Three asses does not a reprehensible artist make. Gives new meaning to the concept of 'butt-hurt' for you, tho.

Re:129

Perhaps you should explore why you have so much self-loathing.

160

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

The Line deserved better in general. He didn't need to just 'find a nice straight line and settle down', but that Dot wasn't good enough for him either. Maybe some kind of free-thinking polyhedron?

Re: 129

[identity profile] doctor-dorothy.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I love this! Well, except for the part where Derrida would never have said any of the stupid shit this person is putting out. But I think the anon fancies himself/herself a philosopher. Too bad they missed the section on gender theory ...

115, 133

[identity profile] scornedsaint.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
115. Me too.
133. I have no idea what fandom that refers to, but that sounds like a ton of fun and you are awesome.

On Can(n)on, 109, and 128

(Anonymous) 2008-07-08 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Canon =/= Cannon

“Cannon” means what's not fannon (or heavy artillery, but I digress). “Canon” means a professional interpreter of the Bible or other religious document. [/nitpicky]

Hmm. Maybe we need canons for cannon. ([/bad pun][/*shot*-worthy])

109: That's actually my oldest “fandom,” but I'll be blunt: it's crap until the Sensui arc. I actually have only just gotten into it again (with the manga, this time) because I hit the “Dark Tournament” and went: “...oh god. No. Just... no.” for three years. I can't vouch for the rest of the fandom, but I got into it because of the demons. I'm an ancient mythology buff, and a lot of the information they have on ancient Japanese mythology is not only accurate but conveyed in the shonen plot, so it's not a snore-fest. Unfortunately, there's so much background information involved in understanding that, that the dub and official English manga seem to have let it drop... sadness. There are some good fan-subs and -scanlations out, though.

128: I can't read any of that... mind you, firefox has zoom, if I can figure out how to make it work without it zooming every page so it no longer fits in-window...

[identity profile] marikandcloe.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I SECOND THIS COMMENT.

I used to like Rollo sigh...

160

[identity profile] villainism.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I couldn't agree more. The line deserved better. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a great big line to beat all lines.

Re: 162

(Anonymous) 2008-07-08 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Butthurt? Do you even know the definition of the word?

I just think it's dumb that people hate on him so much for his art when it's quite plain that no artist is perfect.

The point of the secret isn't to say that Akihiko Yoshida or Akira Toriyama or Amano sucks. The point of the secret is that every fucking artist has things you can criticize them for.

I liked Yoshida's FFT designs. I even liked his Vagrant Story designs for the most part (especially Sidney). I just think that there's plenty you can make fun of in his art just like people do all the time for Nomura.

I'm merely pointing out how unfair all the Nomura hate is. It's obvious that people mostly hate on him because it's cool to. Just like with S-E games in general lately.

Maybe you're the butthurt one?

[identity profile] starsandtildes.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
124. I fell in love with Rolo when I saw him RPed. He is a wonderful little shit and I love wanting to slap him.

143. The Cruxshadows' "Solus" is well on its way to becoming that on mine.

156. ;_; ... normally I'd make you out yourself to me (lol represent) but this sounds too personal. Do it if you want though, bb.

Also, I assume you've gone through kinkmeme? There are a couple things there that I can see you liking.

157. FUCK YES

162. I don't know why someone hasn't said this yet: STUPID SEXY ASHE

#134, #148

[identity profile] martoufmarty.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Buster Keaton and James Stewart in one post?

Is fandom secrets trying to kill me from the awesome????

Also, about #148 - I have great love for movies. When I find someone I'll be greatly disappointed if they aren't a fan of the classics and/or Bollywood.

And I gotta mention that I have a framed poster of It's A Wonderful Life on my wall over my bed.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington on the left, It's a Wonderful Life on the right, and Nosferatu in the middle.

James Stewart ♥

112. If anything, Scrubs is one of the best shows from which to attain your morals.

113. You see Nelson Mandela as Redd or as Morgan Freeman?

118. House/Wilson = Motherfucking Fluff Central, Bitch!

129. ... I never realized that. Although there's usually a cool female character in the film (Eve, Dory, Jessie from Toy Story 2, BOO from Monsters Inc.).

135. ALREADY? OMG LINK ME NAO PLZ THANK YOU

141. Actually, the eyebrows and Richard Cox's voice did it for me. Plus, he beat Edward Cullen to gold eyes.
