Maybe so, but that still doesn't mean that 'boys get more toys' is a valid statement. Not all toys are made as movie spinoffs, and generally items like Barbie or whatever out-sell movie merchandise anyway.

Eh, well, most animators (and writers and whatever) these days are still male, so it's understandable.

Herein lies the problem itself. Why SHOULD it be understandable that males shaft female leads or characters? Why does modern society still push and reflect values like 'females are not made to be heroes or main characters?'

I don't think institutionalized sexism should be cast off as just 'understandable' when it's a problem that needs a'fixin', and I believe that's what 129's OP was suggesting.

I'm sure they do, considering that it's a problem that's perpetuating all forms of media. I think that the OP just chose Pixar for the secret in question because it's a large movie maker that rakes in money off of stories that show personal growth, heroism, and development. With no female leads. See the problem? And actually, it's a pretty relevant issue in all forms of media, like I said, but OP just chose to address one form/particular company.

I dont know if the OP of 129 will see this. But I wanted to say, I know what you mean but I think the few female characters pixar has had have been very cool IMHO. like eve in WALL E and the Mom and daughter in the Incredibles. and Jesse in Toy story 2. that being said you shall get your wish for a female protagonist in a pixar film in 2011, barring any changes from now to then. Apparently pixar/disney is coming out with a film called "the bear and the bow" and protagonist will be a woman named Merida. So yay! :D

And Rose wants half of the Tardis legally due to her, as that judge on the telly informed them in their televised divorce proceedings.

Yeah, the Dark Tourney is a snorefest. And I got into it for the same reason you did: mythology.

It's not perfect, but at least it's fun and the fandom is pretty decent.

Like I said EARLIER, parents condition their children to want a certain type of toy by the way that they raise them. Gendered play, blah blah...

Barbie movies are made after the toys come out as a way of just boosting sales. They aren't spinoffs of a movie like Pixar movie toys are. I didn't say that boys get more toys (earlier I mentioned "girl toys" aisles at Toys R Us), I said that the toys that are movie spinoffs are usually for boys because companies think that parents will buy those type of toys for boys as opposed to girls.

I seriously think people aren't actually reading anything I'm writing.

Or rather, I should have clarified that I was referring to the types of toys that #129 OP specified, but I guess I just assumed that's what we were talking about

My film studies class wasn't pleasant because the prof was a Chaplin fanatic, he showed The Gold Rush and there were a couple titters. I lobbied him to show The Cameraman, he did in the hour before class, and the auditorium died laughing. He didn't much like me after that. :D (Especially after I corrected him on his Thea von Harbou/Fritz Lang marriage chronology. FAIL!)

And there are plenty of us who find him gorgeous. Be proud to perv on the man!
