Not deeply familiar with this series... how under 18 was he? Like, 17?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
If he's 18 in season 1 and there was a year between the Kerberos mission and the start of the show... Then yeah, he was probably around 17.

AYRT

I see. Well OP is certainly entitled to their feelings but still... seems a bit arbitrary. This is literally the difference between me in freshman year of college, and me in sophomore, and I was hooking up the entire time.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm loath to get into it, because it's such a drama storm and also fictional, but even though there's nothing wrong with a 17 year old hooking up with people, I would still kind of side-eye a relationship between a 17 year old and a 25 year old.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
How about a 17 year old and a 24 year old? :D It's not like Shiro was always 25 in all the time he and Keith knew each other.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
Shiro being 24 or 25 doesn't really affect things from my point of view

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
I had a thing with a 25 year old when I was 17. Was really nice, lasted two years. Didn't see anything wrong with it, and it's perfectly fine in my country.

I agree that it's not an ideal relationship. But Shiro antis dialed the outrage up to 11 as an exercise in ship-war harassment far beyond "that relationship isn't a good idea." Even this opinion would likely get me branded as a pedophile apologist in that war.

EDIT: Even more ridiculous, Shaladin wank got tied into "discourse." So a person who got dragged for being not sufficiently aphobic often got dragged again as a pedophile apologist. All for not doing the right kind of performative hysteria.

So did the creators of this series finally actually confirm all the characters' ages or is it all still a contradictory maelstrom?

*has never watched and doesn't want to, but occasionally rubbernecks at the drama*

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, an official handbook came out last year that gave each paladin's age. The wankstorm still rages on, though.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Shiro is 25, Keith is 18, Lance is 17, Hunk is also 17, and Pidge is 15.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
sa

Or at least those were their ages in S1/S2, they could be slightly older now, depending on how much time has passed in the show since the first episode (though IMO it hasn't been more than several months).

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
The handbook came out before Keith's birthday; he should be 19 now.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's why I added that the ages from the handbook applied to S1/S2 and they're all probably a bit older now.

I'm more interested in their pre-Kerberos relationship from a story-telling point of view tbh, I just wanna know how they knew each other before everything happened.

Jury's out on if we'll ever get that though.

As for the shipping side of it I'm very easy on it, Sheith happening pre-Kerberos or after, I don't mind.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind pre-Kerberos Sheith, but as hard as I ship it, I can only imagine it happening sometime during the show (but not right now) or post-canon. I used to read a lot of pre-Kerberos Sheith fics after season 1, back when we barely knew anything about their relationship, but now it just doesn't feel right anymore, and not just because of the ages (though that's part of it), but also because of their dynamic.

So... it's okay for him to be a child soldier who is piloting a giant fighting robot when he's under 18 but having sex is bad wrong not okay? I literally do not understand this logic at all.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-30 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Well, technically, he was eighteen when he started piloting a giant robot lion, so he was legal enough to be a solider and legal enough to fuck at that point in the story.

But still, LMAO at this whole thing. Keith was living on his own for a year before he turned eighteen (literally on his own in the middle of nowhere in a desert). But apparently a dude can be grown up enough to be self-sufficient and support himself but still shouldn't date or fuck an older guy until he's eighteen. (I wonder how this logic applies in places where the age of consent is sixteen.)

OMG, this. Saying this as the anon who made this secret a while back:

Puritans.

They'll send kids to die in wars for them, but invent things like corn flakes and circumcision because touching yourself and feeling pleasure is BAD, m'kay? Adults obsessing over kids' sexuality to the point of cutting their genitals is somehow a-okay tho.

American Tumblrites, man, you can't explain that.
