Yes. It's a democratic society where most members of the dominant political faction, with actual popular support, seek environmental destruction and personal impoverishment, and scorn any criticism from those who try to explain why their program is foolish.

We are living in a dystopian story.

I'm currently reading a book about the Massachusetts Puritans and I can say yes. It always has been.
