I just wanted to say that I don't think that the Riverdale instance was intentional / cynical

I mean, it still absolutely happened, and that's something that's absolutely on them, but

how was it not intentional. That was their selling point for the pilot. The script writings that are floating around for the first episode show that it was meant to bait. They STILL promote the fuck out and of beronica in addition to bughead and beronica (and even random shit like barchie and jeronica while convienently leaving out the other gay half - Jarchie)

normally I would agree but given how social media heavy the show is (and other shows are becoming in general) I don't doubt the producers tell them to encourage it unless addressed directly on. They need to promo their show somehow.
