I started watching the new Cardcaptor Sakura series recently, and it's interesting how Rika (the elementary classmate) is the only character to have been quietly put on a bus and written out of the new story.

Thank you. Also, it's important to point out that people can be attracted to children (which is a mental illness and not something they can help) WITHOUT ever actually acting on it and hurting real children either by physically doing it themselves or by participating in child pornography.

Yeah, I hadn't heard about that aspect until this thread and that detail just makes my skin crawl. Ick.

The 80s D&D Cartoons

Wikipedia says Andre Norton got there first with Quag Keep, although before then you had Witch World and Princess of Mars which did the same thing without the gaming theme.

Still on Fred Schnider, I think he'd be fun.

They just need someone badly pretending to be SoldatSasha to come in and start desperately sucking Wako's dick to complete the little act...

I don’t know enough about him to be attracted to him, but I’ve definitely been attracted to some of the characters he plays.

West Side Story

Spielberg put out a casting call for Latino actors for West Side Story. Maybe it will be the bilingual revival.

Fuck no.

Yup. I had huge tracks of land to begin with, but they got ginormous when I gained weight. I thought that losing weight would shrink 'em a bit, but instead they've gotten even bigger. So not fair.

Maybe Wako tried to frame Wako by posting a troll secret that was meant to look like it was meant to look like it was posted by Wako but actually wasn't.

I mean, Wako knows Wako's style best. So Wako would know how to make a secret that looks like it was supposed to look like Wako's style but isn't quite right.

I personally love the bilingual revival and hope its that, though I know it got some backlash when it was on broadway...

The earliest inspiration for that in gaming is probably the Harold Shea stories by L Sprague De Camp and Fletcher Pratt, which started in 1940 and were in Appendix N in the original D&D handbook. Also Poul Anderson's Three Hearts And Three Lions in 1953.

But, I mean, if we're just talking about the basic idea of a normal person going into a fantastical otherworld, that's one of the oldest themes in fantasy and folklore (what with Faerie, the underworld, the echtra, fantastical voyages, etc, etc, etc), and it was just massively widespread in early fantastic fiction to the point that it's not really worth listing examples. Honestly, I feel like it's probably one of the more distinctive features of Tolkien compared to his contemporaries that he doesn't have any characters from our world or connections to it.

If I want to torture myself later I might find a transcript, but like hell will I listen to or look at or watch him.

I don't think Wako would be clever enough to pull a double bluff like that

ikr?! but Wako is str8 so who would fall for it?

Obviously it's a tragic situation for them all the way around.

Personally I would be more upset by a son's death than his actions, no matter how "monstrous" those actions. I wouldn't rank them as equally tragic. Death is final.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-31 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Since it's a sexist troll post a little sense was called for. Or are you one of those pro-porn people who don't give a damn about who gets hurt as long as you get off?

OP - Yeah, and then from that maniacal evil to kinda lost and searching, to full-on redemption arc <3

I'm just a sucker for a good redemption arc ;)

I didn’t think Robert Carlyle counted as unattractive until a coworker and I were comparing celebrity crushes and she went “ew, I don’t get it.” It’s not like he’s attractive in everything he’s done, I certainly don’t think he’s good looking as Begbie or Hitler. Then again, I couldn’t tell a couple of her crushes apart; they were bog-standard 20-something babyfaced blond white dudes.

It's on in the background, but I'm pretty bored by it.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2018-01-31 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I think Quag Keep is credible as a first novel about mundanes trapped specifically in an RPG because formalized RPGs were not popular or well known before the 1970s. The Harold Shea stories (at least the early ones) and Three Hearts and Three Lions appear to be portal fantasies into literary worlds or alt history.

I actually liked the guy who plays Darcy, in that I felt it was believable that he really loved Elizabeth and really changed. That said, I really disliked it overall. Elizabeth just seemed to look sly all the time and it annoyed me.

Was about to say so myself.

Oh, sure, i was just responding to the "normal person from the modern day gets sucked into/trapped in an alternate world" element
