Yeah, but the Heathers are arguably worse. The entire point is they're the straight white popular girl bitch stereotype while the protags at least have a "reason" for their everything and are at least marginally sympathetic. Let's be real: the reason minorities were put in those roles was to score diversity points but also not have to make them decent people and thus actually care about them.

Heathers punched up. It took a shot at the rich and the white and the cis and the straight. Now it's punching down at minority groups, because, "Oh, those are the kids who are popular right now!" Yeah, my little brother's bisexual friend is totally popular. That's why he got beat up a few weeks ago. Non-white people are popular, that's why there's non-white racial violence everywhere. It's hip to be non-cis, that's why trans people are still fighting to even use the correct bathroom.

I am so over a casting gay man as woman's character. It's just the same old sexism hiding behind so called progressiveness. If they did a complete gender bender version of Heaths instead of Heathers with an all lead male cast and a female JD that would be interesting. But just casting a gay man as one of the female characters is sexist and shows how pandering our society has become.

I just don't understand how they plan on making an entire series while seemingly sticking so close to the original story.

Like, is it just going to be incredibly slow-paced, or are they going to introduce a new Heather to kill each week, or what?

Yeah even if it didn't have this whole other kerfuffle, a modern tv show Heathers sounds like it will lose most of what made Heathers good in favor of generic teen tv

I have so many problems with the Heathers reboot

Like, I think that maybe having diverse Heathers could work, like if they used to talk about double standards

Like, they could use Heather Chandler as how the body positive movement only helps those who still try to fit beauty and fashion standards while punishing those who don't fit or use Heather Mac for how femme lesbians are more respected than butch lesbians

But from the way the trailers made it look, it's just going to be an edgy Glee

(Unpopular Opinion: As bad as this remake looks like it's going to be, all of the Heathers outfits are on point)

One of my thoughts in watching the trailer was, "Paramount has a network? Is it going to be like CBS All Access?" And then I discovered that the Paramount Network is one of those cable channels that has been rebranded a half-dozen times by different owners, starting out as an MTV-knockoff for middle-aged suburbanites who think an SUV makes them "country," then a lifestyle channel for that same demographic (under two names), ending up as the dudebro channel whose top claim to fame was Star Trek reruns, and now rebranded yet again as a flagship for a media brand that no one really cares about.

So I'm not that worried about a show that looks like cable wonks trying to rebrand an ailing channel through 2edgy4u programming.
