Setting aside the domestic abuse allegations, which do matter to me (those and the other violence and anger issues in his past), but if you don't care then that's up to you - what's the last thing you enjoyed him in? Because it's been quite a while for me, even before I decided I didn't want to watch him anymore. Also, I think that styling looks terrible - the hair color, the haircut, the mustache, the eye, the embroidery and cut of those trousers, that cravat, and that vest should either be unfastened or they should have posed him differently.

DA - honestly, probably the first Pirates movie. Definitely by the time you get to Dark Shadows, his acting career was made of suck and vague disappointment. But the gap between those two was full of small glimmers of hope flashing through a murky, phoned-in void.

The first Pirates for me, too. I watch the second and the third, but I didn't enjoy him in them. But it was seeing the trailers for The Tourist that really made me notice the phoning it in.

ayrt -- I think I really noticed the phoning in during The Corpse Bride. I remember thinking that the movie would be so much better if Johnny Depp tried just a little harder to give a shit.

Well, there was that weird-ass apology statement to Australians, although I'm not sure if that's laughing with Depp or at him.

Apparently he does all his 'acting' by having lines fed to him through an earpiece nowadays and I haven't seen him play a character that wasn't just 'Johnny in a wig and makeup' in a looong time.

Look I was a 90s goth girl in love with Edward Scissorhands, too, etc etc, but today's Johnny Depp just... he doesn't put in the work to justify using him in all these things anymore. It's going to make the series so much less fun for me to suffer through one of his 'performances'.
