This casting decision raises so many questions. Why is Grindelwald a Yank with a weird fake accent? Who thought that hair was a good idea? Is Grindelwald secretly Dorian Gray’s portrait come to life? Is this going to be the first role in 15 years that Depp puts some actual effort into, or could the production have saved money by just playing a Hot Topic ad whenever Grindelwald was supposed to speak? So many questions and so little desire to waste time and money at the cinema to find out.

This does remind me that after all those years upholding the mandate that British characters had to be played by British actors, and only relenting for *some* of the new American characters (half of them are still played by Brits), JKR is all gung-ho for Depp to play a character that was at the very least some manner of European.
