I think that particular storyline did poorly by both Poe and Amilyn.

The characterization is weirdly inconsistent with Poe in the comics and Amilyn in the Princess of Alderaan book. Sure, that was when she was a teenager but so was Leia, and she's still quite similar.

They're a lot more alike than the movie shows.

I find it really weird that you're judging the main canon characterization according to the tertiary materials, but I'm glad you at least have versions you like?

it's not like i'm talking about Legends stuff, the comics are canon and take place shortly before TFA, and TLJ takes place like....a week after, that book is canon.

I know they're canon, but they're still...extras, they're still supplementary, and I don't ever expect the movies to feel terribly bound by anything except the other movies, because those are the absolute center of gravity for the dominance of the franchise, you know?

I think it makes perfect sense to prefer the characterization of the supplements if that's what appeals to you, but less sense to really expect the movies to take their cue from stuff that maybe 1% of the audience is into, stuff that is explicitly spinoffs and continuations *of the movies*, even if the timeline is trying to fill in some of the gaps preemptively.

No. What's movieverse canon is what's in the movies. The rest is just some extra you can take or leave, especially since most of the world can't access those extras.

So do you consider the clone wars show Canon? It's limited in it's access worldwide and involves characters from the prequels.

No, I don't.

Poe and Holdo being extremely similar was a huge part of what I took from the movie, tbqh. It really came across with the sense that they were two very, very similar people who were butting heads because they were so similar and because they were put into conflicting situations by the course of events.

Which is part of the reason that I liked the storyline a lot more than most other people seem to have done, I guess.

Yes, I don't get people who come out of that with a Team Poe vs. Team Holdo perspective, but YMMV I guess.

I was somewhat surprised by how far Poe took it but I didn't hate the storyline.

I could believe how far Poe took it because of how high the stakes were. I mean, it really did look like literally everyone was going to die.

I feel the same way you do with Poe and Amilyn. I prefer their book/comic versions to the movie. But I guess that might be because those were my first real interactions with characters (since Poe didn't get to do much in TFA).

Actually right now the books/other supplementary materials are doing more for me then the actual films. I've enjoyed the films just not as much, which is ironic because I avoided the books before the new stuff started coming out. Mostly because it was just too much material for me.
