I sort of feel like whatever this scandal is, you are misrepresenting it. Fandom is crazy and all, but when most people eat meat, I am unconvinced there's a "controversy" involved with this actor.

Unless he claimed to like, eat dolphin/whale/dogs/cats or something else more specifically objectionable.

I can't speak to how widespread or consequential the scandal was, but it definitely happened and was widely reported on.

You've never encountered the "meat is murder" crowd, eh? We're not talking about your average fan or even your average vegetarian/vegan who understands that eating meat is a choice other people are allowed to make.

I am a vegetarian and while I know plenty of ethical vegans, it would be absolutely silly to specifically dogpile any given celebrity since 99% of them eat meat. Unless he is presenting himself in a hypocritical way, I'm skeptical that merely "eating meat" is controversial.

He farms his own meat and talked about how happy the lamb's life was before it was killed and butchered, therefore he is super evil.

Okay. I don't know what to tell you, except that:

1) Sometimes... no, scratch that - quite often people do silly things that don't make any sense to reasonable people. So we can't discount the possibility that people somewhere are behaving in a very silly fashion about this subject. Particularly if it's militant vegans kicking up a fuss about eating meat because this is totally a thing that happens all the time, including a very well known international organization that spends money on actual campaigns shaming people who eat meat, drink milk, wear wool/fur, etc.

2) It was all over the news, with cited examples. One of which is already linked to in this thread. I'm all in favor of healthy skepticism, but your reasoning ("it would be silly!") isn't very sound. Proposing the existence of angry vegans being angry about meat consumption is hardly the same as proposing the Loch Ness Monster really exists. It's more like, news flash, sky is blue and grass is green, etc. etc.
