I own a ton of movies on dvd that I bought new because I liked the films; if I’m curious about something I haven’t seen, I go to the library. I don’t pirate or stream stuff illegally. I don’t get into fights or sic entertainment lawyers on people that pirate all their favorite media, but I don’t approve.

I have no problem with someone getting off to mental images of imaginary characters as portrayed by specific actors. Or even fanart of same, provided no-one shares it with the actors.

I think film purportedly portraying specific actors using their pasteded-on-yay faces is gross in a way that most fan-media isn’t.

OK, but my point here is: if the reason that this stuff is wrong is because (1) it takes away actors' rights to make a profit off their likeness and (2) it's wrong to use someone to get off without their consent - which were the reasons that were offered - then it seems like those things are absolutely not unique to this new AI porn thing. Both of those things are absolutely endemic on the Internet. If those are the reasons that this is objectionable, then it's hard to see what makes it worse than vast swaths of the Internet, and basically all of fandom.

Because it’s film, the same medium that tv and movie actors work in. They are not for the most part writing or drawing or otherwise making creative works about the characters they portray. And if someone writes or draws art of a celebrity fucking another celebrity, no one aside from tinhatters will think that the celebrities in question had anything to do with producing the fanfic/fanart. That gets a lot harder to distinguish if the medium is film, and celebrities who would refuse to actually film porn will find the decision taken out of their hands. I’m not saying people won’t do it anyway. I’m saying it’s wrong.

So - to be clear - what you're saying the reason that it's wrong is because people will mistake it for being real, which will then lead to various bad effects.

Here's what doesn't make sense to me about that: it seems like the only way that anyone would think simulated pornography is real is if they don't know about the existence of simulated pornography. So it seems like, the more widespread stuff like this becomes, the less this particular problem will exist.

That's like saying the more widespread pedophilia becomes the more normal it is. It's still fucking wrong and disgusting. How would you feel if I took your face and put it on porn than shared it with thousands of people without ever asking you?

Even if some people know it's fake, there are even more that will think it's real or still treat it as real. I've seen way too many misogynistic neckbeards propagating this stuff as a way to demean actresses they dislike. So fuck them and anyone that defends this shit.
