[Star Wars: The Last Jedi]
Transcript from OP
I wasn't even in the Batman fandom, and I had an opinion about Joker-fangirls.
I liked Loki as a character, but I was not a Loki-fangirl.
You know where this is going, right?
Yeah. I'm totally fangirling the current Trash Lord Kylo Ren. Oops?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-03 12:12 am (UTC)(link)Rorschach's a good example actually. There's nothing wrong with fangirling Rorschach. But there is something wrong with pretending that Rorschach is something that he's not. Because Rorschach is a very specific character, who is very fucked up, and also plays a specific part in Watchmen. And if you erase all of that to turn him into a badass hero and/or woobie, then I think you have gone too far. It's not the fangirling that's the problem, it's the bad interpretation and revionism.
That's how I feel about it.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-03 12:16 am (UTC)(link)There is something wrong with arguing that it's a supported, valid interpretation of the text when the text doesn't actually support it.
Or, if not wrong, at least incorrect.

But seeing as I'm almost a life-long Joker fan (since BTAS, but it's two for one as I also love Batman) and MCU Loki is one of my favourites in that particular universe...I know how it feels to feel like everyone who is a fan is being judged as one of the crazies. So I take the "you do you" attitude in most cases. I personally try to avoid reading it as much as possible but I'm even ok with people having their wildly OOC Mary Sue fantasies so long as they don't start acting like it's definitely canon and attacking anyone who doesn't agree. Then again I'm also "why?" about people who spend more time trying to wind-up fangirls than enjoying their own stuff. Maybe I'm too old/laid back for this shit. Idk.
Basically...enjoy OP!

(Anonymous) 2018-02-04 01:40 am (UTC)(link)Liking a villain has no correlation to morality. So either you'll either realize those "fangirls" aren't idiots and their taste had merit, or you'll either hate yourself, or you'll just think it's different when you like a villain. Cognitive dissonance is funny like that.
