I don't care who you fangirl. Just don't be a dumbass about it.

Rorschach's a good example actually. There's nothing wrong with fangirling Rorschach. But there is something wrong with pretending that Rorschach is something that he's not. Because Rorschach is a very specific character, who is very fucked up, and also plays a specific part in Watchmen. And if you erase all of that to turn him into a badass hero and/or woobie, then I think you have gone too far. It's not the fangirling that's the problem, it's the bad interpretation and revionism.

That's how I feel about it.

There is nothing wrong with pretending whatever you like. That's what fandom is all about.

There is nothing wrong with AUs and fanfic.

There is something wrong with arguing that it's a supported, valid interpretation of the text when the text doesn't actually support it.

Or, if not wrong, at least incorrect.
