Did this really happen? As in people actually thought that versus were making fun of just how bad the last season was? Poe's Law and all that; I honestly can't tell.

Oh yeah, it was entirely serious. Up to and including that the first episode of a brand new show (Apple Tree Yard) that was going into Sherlock's timeslot was assumed to be a vast conspiracy season 4 episode 4 of Sherlock. Like, the "meta" about that was amazing, it was so fucking crazy hahaha

Imagine how pissed off they were when Apple Tree Yard was a real show.

As the comm's resident long-time Sherlockian, I can confirm, it 100% really happened, and it was every bit as crazy as it sounds, if not crazier. o_O

you know, my blog was full of postings about the REAL episode, but for me it was all tongue-in-cheek. The moment I realized that ALL THESE YEARS (most) people were 100% serious about all their stuff I lost a lot of passion :(

It's so bad that I can't really enjoy speculations in my current fandom
