JKR's ally status aside, I can't believe there are actually people here defending the decision not to depict Dumbledore's sexuality in the films. That is a pathetic cop-out on the studio's part and you know it.

And come on, they don't have to give him a love interest to make it obvious. Look at Giles in The Shape of Water (spoilers upcoming). Even without the bigotry angle, his interest in the diner guy was very subtly and deliberately portrayed.

And, the implication that Giles had been blacklisted in his own industry.

People here are defending it not being explicit in the SECOND OF A FIVE MOVIE FRANCHISE.

Nothing about the state of LGBT representation in mainstream media gives me any reason to give the studio the benefit of the doubt. If anything they aren't being pressured enough. There are people here making the bottom line argument for them.

the problem I have with this argument is that I see no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt or indicate that it's part of some 11th-dimensional-chess long term plan

afaik there is literally no evidence for that

And yet the relationship between Jacob and Queenie, despite not being especially plot relevant, was made explicitly clear in the FIRST of a five movie franchise, so I wonder what the difference is with Dumbledore...
