I've only watched the first two episodes and while I'm enjoying it so far, I really liked OG!Kovacs and am kind of sad we have to spend so much time with his new sleeve.

Also, I could do without all the sex. Not a prude, I just... I like my mystery/action shows sans romance/sex.

I don't think I'm a prude but the sex in this series feels pretty gratuitous, like they're putting one in because they're afraid people are going to get bored unless they do, even though it doesn't add much to the plot. I don't really like it when shows do that. And yeah, the show needs more OG!Kovacs.

I think that's what bothered me most about it too. Like... the scene in the brothel had context so it didn't bother me, but the scene with the guy's wife just seemed..., "Okay we don't want you to think this is TOO intellectual and sci-fi, so have some porn."

Haha, I know. And there's a scene later that I won't spoil for anyone reading this but it felt inevitable, yet still really distracting and out of nowhere. I was annoyed they went there, because it felt like a huge cliche.

Haven't watched yet, but - please tell me. Was the brothel basically all women prostitutes and male clients, with maybe a couple female clients/two women prostitutes together and no male prostitutes of any kind whatsoever?

To be honest, I really don't remember if they showed anyone other than the client he went to see.

Just checking. :D

NAYRT but: the thing is that the original book had a ton of sex in it, so it's a faithful adaptation in that regard, but it also felt fairly gratuitous there.

I mostly just wonder why they decided to adapt the book in the first place, rather than just making their own cyberpunk thing.

Oh, okay. I haven't read the book, so I have no idea how faithful an adaptation this is. It's an interesting setting, but I'd like a bit more substance in the TV show. So far it's mostly flash.

I think the book had basically the same problem fwiw.
