Re: Overwatch

I don't entirely understand this question? Yes its a video game, but it also has accompanying lore, which is not uncommon for video games. Now, Overwatch's is particularly disjointed (a common joke I make that I heard somewhere is that Overwatch lore is written by three different people in locked rooms who aren't allowed to communicate with each other) with a lot of stuff having been retconned, unclear and underdeveloped, or contradictory.

Most of it comes from 1.The official character descriptions on the website 2. Comics and animated shorts and 3. Miscellaneous in game storytelling, such as special event games like "Uprising" and various character voicelines. So if you want to read up I would check those things out, but like I said, don't expect it to be entirely coherent. Fans fill in a lot of gaps with headcanons.

ayrt

I don't think I fully understood my own question, but I think you answered it perfectly! I suppose I was just confused in regards to what exactly the canon consists of, since there are so many fan theories, the timeline is not exactly in order, and so forth. That said, I felt like I was putting together a puzzle that was missing pieces and lacking a picture on the box, while reading fic and trying understand what were the fixed events /character personalities and their relationships to each other. I thought I was going a little crazy, but I see I'm not.

I really appreciate you comment, anon! Thanks!

Lol, no, that's pretty much what overwatch lore is. A complete mess. The fandom too is a bit of a mess as a result, but it can be a fun mess.
