Oh, 100% - I was about to say 'what else would you call it, and the discussion and creation of fan media' but, then again, nowadays, it's pretty easy to refer to 'I was chatting about Star Wars to people on tumblr'. Which actually helps add some nuance to the supposed monolith implied by 'fandom', and is probably more parsable to people not strictly in fandom.
