What a coincidence, I was just rereading The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. I remembered the tea with Mr. Tumnus fondly but after rereading it, it's kind of funny that it involves toast in three different forms. As you say, it's probably down to rationing and not having proper bread.

And really it was a wonderful tea. There was a nice brown egg, lightly boiled, for each of them, and then sardines on toast, and then buttered toast, and then toast with honey, and then a sugar-topped cake.

I'm down with everything but the sardines, tbh.

Sardines are good for you! They are high in calcium, iron, and omega-3s and low in mercury. ~*THE MORE YOU KNOW*~

I'm just amused by all the different forms of toast and how the CAKE is like an afterthought.
