What happened? I've only seen some of the episodes with him, but he's always seemed like an interesting character.

He's been the best thing about the show for a while now IMHO... over the past few years he's been this amazingly courageous, intelligent character who's been willing to take a stand even when it ends up turning half the city against him. He's gotten closer and closer to Olivia to the point that there's a lot of hints of romance between them, and at the very least they're very close friends...

Then in this past episode, out of nowhere, they introduce a previously unmentioned plot element about his personal conflict surrounding his father and "right to die" issues and use that to justify his making the decision to PULL THE PLUG on an INFANT's life support - to physically do it himself, not just say find a way for the mother to do it, or something like that.

He was tried for murder and found not guilty, but then left his position anyway, only saying that he "had to move on" as a reason or an answer as to what he's doing next.

He had a pretty sweet moment with Liv in the end where he all but confessed his love to her, and kissed her (on the forehead).

But aside from that moment, it was an insulting farewell to a much loved character. :/
