I am so fucking irritated. My recipient has a DNW of AUs. Okay, reasonable. But, the pairing they requested never meet in canon. The only way to get them together is to make an AU. I asked for clarification about maybe having a canon-compliant AU but the recipient said no. No AUs for anything. Fuck you, recipient. You're getting shit and you earned it.

I think there's a lot of confusion in how people use AU?

But they probably mean AU in the sense of transporting characters into a totally different setting, not just any story that departs from canon? I would imagine?

That's what I thought, which was why I checked through the mod. But, nope. No AUs at all. Not even fix-it fic or minor canon-divergence stuff that would actually get these characters together.

Oh, wow. That's pretty weird.

Maybe some kind of weird-ass epistolary fic or something? IDK. That's super weird.

That makes no sense at all. I don't blame you for feeling like you can't write a good fic out of that.

Hahaha. Sorry. That's fucking hilarious.
That's like ordering fries and asking them to hold the potatoes.
What a weird request.

Your recipient is freaking weird, anon.

How annoying! My guess is that this person is too dumb to understand what they're asking for or what an AU encompasses. If I were the mod, I'd gently (but firmly) try to point out the impossibility of their request and ask them to reconsider, or resign themselves that they're not going to get exactly what they asked for.

Can you write something that takes place *after* canon, or do they not both survives?

I would have assumed they meant no AUs in the sense of "Don't make them all vampires who go to Hogwarts" or something but dang, I dunno!
