You and your mystery fandom are the weird ones. Speaking even as a reader, I can't imagine having to keep a list of Potentially Readable Fics that I then have to go back to and update as replies from authors pour back in (if they even ever do). That is some insane system and way too involved for a hobby that I indulge in for an hour or two at the end of my day as my herbal tea lulls me to sleep. What's your fandom? I'd like to see for myself if this is truly standard behavior as you say.
