SG-1

I've just started watching this (after years of hearing about it) and damn, it's *such* fun. (Currently 6 eps into S3.)

Wish I'd watched years ago when there were more comms for it.

It's a pretty good show!

It's a very fun show

The problem for me is that there's so much of it (especially when you include Atlantis) and I feel like I cant go back and rewatch it without getting sucked in.

Also it dies feel a little dated now but that's less of an issue.

Oddly, I'm constantly noticing small details that make me smile. More background women as soldiers than I would have expected to see 20 years ago, for one. I like how Sam's character is being handled, for the most part, and I enjoy the kickass older women (Catherine!) Yes, a few things make me cringe (*coughHathorcough*), and so far Chris Judge has been ridiculously underutilized (e.g., I sigh when we get yet another reaction shot of Teal'c looking stoically unamused), but all in all I'm finding it enjoyable.

How exciting! You're at peak SG1, I think.

It is fun, although I remember watching the pilot after finding it at a video rental place (I never saw it when it was on Showtime because I didn't have premium cable) and absolutely hated it. I had loved the movie and didn't appreciate the clunkier special effects, props, and costumes on the show (the awesome CG morphing headdresses was the best part of the movie and replacing that with either not-so-great CG or helmets that sort of flop open is going to be a disappointment). I also thought the nudity was pointless and was annoyed that it was basically a matter of "IT'S PREMIUM CABLE HERE ARE SOME BOOBS!" Finally, let's not forget Sam Carter's infamous "reproductive organs on the inside" speech (which the show later acknowledges was completely stupid, bless their hearts, but at the time I was definitely going to deduct points for that).

When it appeared in syndication and I got to see more of the actual show, I started to like it a lot more. It improved over time. When it jumped channels to SciFi/SyFy I started watching it regularly, although I missed pretty much all of the last season.

Haha! I've missed that speech (unless it comes later? though if it was part of the first Hathor ep I missed it, I honestly skipped most of that one :p). I don't recall any nudity either, though perhaps editing happened for Hulu?

fwiw, it looks like most (all?) of the series are on Hulu: SG-1, Atlantis, Universe.

(I have never seen the movie, and it's not streaming for free on anything ai have access to. Some day, I guess.)

This was all in the very first episode, Children of the Gods. I'm sure the nudity was edited out - I seem to remember seeing a re-run of that episode somewhere and they cut the scene to exclude the nudity.

I remember the movie being gorgeous, but I haven't seen it in years and now I'm a little afraid to re-watch it because so often older CGI doesn't hold up (although Jurassic Park did, so maybe Stargate did, too). I really liked the soundtrack and owned the album. There's bits of music that kept getting re-used for trailers for other movies.

I would like to see the film, if for no other reason than I think Spader maps better to Shanks than Russell to Anderson. (RDA keeps reminding me of a much younger Harrison Ford-as-Indiana Jones.)

(and, okay, also Jaye as Ra.)

SG-1 is one of my favourite shows ever, it's just so much fun and after the first season at least is very self-aware and just rolls with the goofiness. It's got its more serious moments too buts it's one of the best 'sit back and enjoy it' TV shows.

Very daunting to rewatch though as there's so much of it.

Indeed.

It's a great show!
