How do you feel about people writing about the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham?

Or planets? Or their Greek friends?

I only really care about Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythology, so I haven't run into any dealing with Iraq. Planets use Roman names and I only search by their Greek names, so no problem there. The only people I've run into that have the name of a Greek god are Wiccans/Hellenistic Pagans and they were actually talking about a deity, so we're cool.

Every hear of Isis?

Ah! Well, she's not really one of my favorites, so I don't search for her. If I ever wanted to, I'm sure there's a 'Isis goddess' tag I could use instead.

ayrt

Well, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham is also known as ISIS. Most planets use Roman names, except for Uranus and some planetary moons. Popular names in the Greece come from mythology (like Adonis and Athena).

As a mythology and ancient history fan I will let you know you are missing out by not bothering to learn about the whole "Fertile Crescent". It's way more than just Egyptian. You have a lot of cool civilizations and beliefs that are worth the time learning about.

I have been trying to diversify my mythology knowledge outside of "The Big Three", but I just haven't quite had that "ah-ha!" moment with anything yet. The Aztec stuff is the closest to that moment, I think.

Do you have any specific suggestions for me? For reference, I'm a big fan of tricksters, more focus being on the gods than the morals, and a large bestiary of mythical creatures.

Epic of Gilgamesh (in the least). Can we talk about Ishtar, anon?
