Sound sensitivity

(Anonymous) 2018-02-16 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Does anyone else have a problem with this? I find that sometimes, I just don't want to hear anything and that every sound I hear irritates me. It always happens with a migraine, and it also happens when my depression is in a bad spot (like now when I'm switching meds). But sometimes it happens randomly too.

I've done basically nothing all day but read with ear plugs in. I haven't left my room much at all. And I usually like to watch tv in the evening, but the idea tonight actually makes me wince.

It's called misophonia and can be caused by a variety of factors.

I thought that was being triggered by specific sounds, usually thinks like people eating. It isn't like that for me. When I get like this, it is voices especially that trigger me, but really any sound. When I'm having issues, I want total silence.

Forgot to add what I actually meant to ask. Is this something I should be worried about and need a doctor to check out? Is there something I can do? Or is this just a normal thing that I'll have ot live with.

Treat the migraine and treat the depression, and the sound sensitivity will likely decrease.

Yep. My office is in a high traffic area, and some days it makes me irrationally angry. The footsteps (heels are the worst), the doors opening and closing, the chatter, it's all too much.

Are you me, because I was just considering asking a similar question. My depression has gotten severely worse this past couple of weeks and it's like every sound is so grating. Even my favourite music is irritating me.

I hope you get some good advice and I wish I could give some. :( hugs for you. Depression sucks balls.

Yeah. I'm bad about lights and smells too. I'm always in pre-migraine territory.
