Sound sensitivity

(Anonymous) 2018-02-16 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Does anyone else have a problem with this? I find that sometimes, I just don't want to hear anything and that every sound I hear irritates me. It always happens with a migraine, and it also happens when my depression is in a bad spot (like now when I'm switching meds). But sometimes it happens randomly too.

I've done basically nothing all day but read with ear plugs in. I haven't left my room much at all. And I usually like to watch tv in the evening, but the idea tonight actually makes me wince.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-16 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's called misophonia and can be caused by a variety of factors.

Forgot to add what I actually meant to ask. Is this something I should be worried about and need a doctor to check out? Is there something I can do? Or is this just a normal thing that I'll have ot live with.

Yep. My office is in a high traffic area, and some days it makes me irrationally angry. The footsteps (heels are the worst), the doors opening and closing, the chatter, it's all too much.

Are you me, because I was just considering asking a similar question. My depression has gotten severely worse this past couple of weeks and it's like every sound is so grating. Even my favourite music is irritating me.

I hope you get some good advice and I wish I could give some. :( hugs for you. Depression sucks balls.

Yeah. I'm bad about lights and smells too. I'm always in pre-migraine territory.

Stars shining bright above you

I wish I could see stars here. Might help my mood.

I love that song.

That song always reminds me of that mattress commercial where the woman is dreaming about having tea with her high school sweetheart and Cornelius from Planet of the Apes... except I'm pretty sure it's not the song used in the commercial.

Anyone know the organization(s) that certify therapy dogs?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-16 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Actual certification. Not that shit "pay $20 to get your emotional support llama certified" places. I am wanting to get a new dog and have it trained to visit hospitals/schools.

Re: Anyone know the organization(s) that certify therapy dogs?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-16 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
No, but you could ask local hospitals, therapists, or vets what is around you locally? I imagine you would want to get them in with a hands on, experienced trainer for something like that.

Are you in the U.S. anon?
Here are the orgs recognised by the AKC. That might be a good place to start.

Oh no

(Anonymous) 2018-02-16 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I went for a walk in a sort of brushy area today and I think I might’ve gotten some poison oak. On my inner thighs. I don’t even know how. Lower legs would at least make sense, but... dammit. Hopefully it’s just bug bites; I’ll find out if/when they start oozing. Blech.

cakemage: (My horse would kill me for a cookie.)

Thank you.

[personal profile] cakemage 2018-02-16 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I want to thank everyone for their kindness towards me on Tuesday when I posted about my horse's death. It meant a lot to me and I really appreciate it.

I bought Sharif on March 25th, 1998, after saving up for years to buy a horse of my own and searching high and low for months to find just the right one. I was twelve and he was five at the time, and despite a rocky start (his previous owners lied to me about his training levels and had drugged him when I tried him out at their place. The first time I rode him after buying him I was on the ground two seconds after my butt hit the saddle), he ended up being the best friend I've ever had for almost twenty years. We had so many adventures together, and I wouldn't trade a second I spent with him for anything in the world. He was loving, patient, goofy, beautiful, prissy, always eager to please, and was quite possibly the most food-motivated horse I've ever met. I miss him so much, and would give anything to have him here with me again. I feel so lost and empty without him.

Goodbye, Sharif. You were an amazing horse and a better friend than I ever deserved. The world is darker without you.
