I loved that too. I also loved that TLJ also showed that people didn't have to be Force sensitive to be heroic or to make a difference. I hope both of those continue in the next movie.

And to be honest, I think Disney did the right thing. In order for the franchise to continue to be successful, it needed to reinvent itself, and it's doing that.

Counterpoint: Han. Lando. Chewbacca. C3-PO and R2D2. Padme.

As to the second... I agree that the old had to make way for the new, but it could have been done a lot more gracefully, and without completely removing all links to the past. :( I know that I would be happier if the Skywalker's entire legacy (given that both the New Republic and the entirety of the new Order have been wiped out) wasn't tied into Kylo effin' Ren.

...I really just can't bring myself to root for a guy who ran away from his family to become a mass murdering terrorist, and who still has not had any sympathetic or even clear motive revealed for doing it.

Who says we're supposed to root for Kylo?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-19 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe we're not, but the point I was bringing to bear was that he is the legacy of the Skywalker family - the only surviving legacy. The New Republic apparently rolled over and died in a matter of days after the capital worlds were destroyed, and the new Order is wiped completely out, including Luke. Everything they built in the OT was destroyed, and it can be very easily argued that the galaxy is worse off than it would have been if the Rebellion had just given up and surrendered to the rule of the Emperor.

Its my opinion, I admit, but I would have liked to have one positive thing left of the Skywalkers, especially if Disney is moving the focus of the series away from them. Even if Kylo Ren is 'redeemed' I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to forgive him.

If they'd wanted to reinvent it they should have started that in the first movie though, not in the second where it just turned everything into a mess of discontinuity.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-19 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck continuity.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-19 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, they did.

Fuck continuity in a connected trilogy of movies? That's hilariously stupid.
