I do it to make people happy or to write things I have't seen that I want to see written. Hits and kudos are nice because I know it means I'm making people happy. I don't do it to feel good about myself. Honestly I know I'm not a very good writer. But I've developed a nitch in my fandom, being the PWP and headcanon girl. And it makes people happy. Which makes me happy.
