I'm surprised by the hostile comments here and people wishing they had 'wasted' less time in fandom.

I agree with you, for me, participiating in fandom has been so liberating. I learned so much, I grew in ways I never would have been able to otherwise. It has been a safe haven when dealing with RL problems, it has pulled me out of depression many times over. It has been a comfort in time of despair. I made so many friends. Fandom has only ever been good to me.
