Same, OP! Thanks to fandom I've met new friends, bonded more with the ones I already had (a lot of my RL friends are also fannish people -- our interests don't always matching up, but even just understanding each other's passion makes a difference), learned or honed skills (including English, as it's not my first language and really poorly taught where I live) that have proved valuable in real life and even helped me find a job, and came to understand and take pride in my sexuality after growing up so sheltered I didn't even *know* until early teens that it was possible to be anything but straight. I don't regret any of the time I've spent here.
