Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan was my first experience with fandom and shipping. And slash! I didn't ship it then but I low-key do now.

Fandom, man. What're you gonna do? Fuck the haters mainly.

My biggest most enduring OTP is Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan. I'm glad tumblr wasn't around during TPM. On AO3, most of the O/Q works were imported from the Boys in Chains archive so there is a disproportionate amount of D/s and BDSM in the pairing right now, although newer stuff is starting to even it out, which I'm happy about.

I'm also sad that Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan has been caught up in the age gap wank and a general wank against master/apprentice relationships for their unequal power dynamics (which is a feature!). It doesn't come up too much since the prequel fandom isn't as big as the sequel one but it's there. :(

Not true, look at Voltron and all the anti-Shaladin people, especially anti-Shiro/Keith. All the drama with antis in Voltron fandom (harassing both fans of the "problematic ships" and the show's staff members who advocate against harassment or show support for the ships, compiling "lists of pedophiles", heckling cosplayers at cons, trying to stop charity zines from happening, burning fanart, etc) has made it known as one of the wankiest and least welcoming fandoms in the past few years.

As someone who hangs around the Ao3 tags, believe me, it's still a juggernaut.

Which as someone it squicks out, annoys me.

oh lol I remember when middle-school-me first started looking online for stuff related to my faves and I was so extremely confused by all the Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan fic I kept running into. Young!me just wanted gen about, like, Jedi training and stuff and could not understand why all these people were writing this weird stuff. I still don't care for the pairing, but I understand the "weird stuff" a LOT better these days lol.

I had more sympathy afterward for people who complained about the lack of gen. (As long as they don't try to shame people for writing shippy fics.)

I was SO obsessed with this pairing back in the day. I wonder if any of my old favorites still hold up...

"Age difference" means "pedophilia" in fandom these days. And all mentor/student ships have power imbalance which also makes it practically pedophilia and grooming and abuse, etc.

I rewatched this movie a few months ago and definitely felt strong shippy vibes. Not in SW fandom, though, and not planning to join.

Aww, man. I remember falling in love with that pairing through Queer as Jedi coming out of QAF fandom back in the day. You have to love anyone that refers to their canon as "the bad AU".

This too was my first fandom, and all I wanted was some Obi-torture and angst mission fic. I rmbr the circles of "slash and smut free" fanfic rings. Ahahahaha slash free. *cough*

Having revisited it a bit later. Still find it preferable to Obi/Ani...

Also fic rec because this fandom has hands down some of the best damn world building.
