Sorry, OP. I hate when brains seize on crappy life circumstances and magnify them. Yay for your cat, and yay for you for venting and I hope getting it off your chest helps. I hope your circumstances improve, too. Good luck.

Thanks. I adopted my cat after he was abandoned and then adopted once and returned to the shelter for not being affectionate enough (he is very affectionate - he just took a long time to warm up and trust me) - and I know if I died he wouldn't understand and think another person abandoned him. That thought is literally the only thing getting me through my days.

Aww, my current cat and one of my dogs (RIP) were both returned to the shelter before I adopted them; my cat is the cuddliest pet I’ve ever had and loves people and attention, and I love her. I’m glad you gave your cat a home, and I’m sure your cat is too. I hope you find more reasons to keep breathing, but I’ve been known to fall back on “who will feed my critters?” when all else fails. Well, that, spite at my own brain for kicking me when I was down, and a stubborn refusal to let my depression off me. I hope you feel better soon.
