...for something that is not necessary to our survival.

May not be for your survival, but it is for me. I mean, sure, buying a package of ground beef from the store is a lot easier than going out and shooting/cooking the squirrels running around here, but if that were my only option, I'd be doing it.

Why? My body does not process some essential nutrients from plants very well. I tend to be anemic. Eating spinach or kale? All it does is turn my poop black and tarry. Eat red meat? Fixes me right up.

Not to mention, due to being on the tyramine-restricted diet for migraines, I cannot eat tree nuts or peanuts. On top of that, soybean products (like soybean oil, flour, and protein) are migraine-triggers for me.

That doesn't leave me many protein options in the plant world.

I'm happy being vegan works for you and your body, but not everybody's body is the same.

Does Chris Pratt have all those health problems? Something tells me he doesn't. And even still, I've known vegans with a range of health issues and allergies who still found a way, because they cared enough to try. Vegans aren't saying that everyone in the world can be vegan right now. The problem is that too few even try when they have every opportunity to do so.

because they cared enough to try

Wow, this is so off the charts passive aggressive. No I do not ~care enough to try~. I like meat. I am an omnivore. No one's out there trying to convert jaguars to veganism because ~if they just cared enough~.

DA

Jaguars are obligate carnivores. With the exception of those with certain health problems, humans are not.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
Jaguars need to eat meat to survive, that's the difference. As you said yourself, you just "like" eating meat. Beings are dying because of your taste preferences. That's sad.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sad to you. It's what they're raised for. Is that not better than going out and slaughtering animals indiscriminately and ruining the balance of that eco-system?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

Presumably the AYRT is proposing abstaining from slaughtering animals altogether, not just switching to wild game.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you're never gonna convince a majority omnivorous population to suddenly go green. I like my meats. :[]

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Meh, no harm in trying.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
True. I think if more vegetarians focused on espousing health benefits and things like that rather than the anon in this thread who seems to think I should care that what I ate was previously alive (I mean, even plants are alive, meat just has a face) and trying to guilt trip it'd be more effective, imo.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you just get people saying that vegetarianism isn't healthy for every single person ever so therefore it's invalid to say that it has health benefits at all, and you're back to square one.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, fuck all those people with allergies who aren't trying hard enough to manage their allergies by going the easy way out instead of doing a more complicated plan of treatment!

Troll.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I’m not going to argue with someone who is purposely deprived of nutrients that regulate brain function. It’s cruel. It’s your choice to eat what you want. If you’re visiting this abuse on beings that depend on you not to fuck with their health out of misplaced morality, then that’s a matter for social services, but as long as you’re only destroying your own body then you do you.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
How is it that the "lol vegans are dumb and protein deficient XD" comments don't get called trolls?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrug* Maybe people are too distracted by all the tedious trolling from an anon who claims to be a vegetarian. I mean, there's so much of it.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-26 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The only people trolling are the people chortling about how even the mildest of pro-vegetarian comments are batshit trolling.

Or imagine if you lived in the arctic.
