While Wakanda has a lot of resources, it still wouldn't be easy to help other countries.

Let's take South Sudan, for instance, which probably isn't too far from Wakanda. Right now, South Sudan's in a civil war between the government and the SPLM-IO. If Wakanda tries to be impartial, they have to figure out how to negotiate a ceasefire not only between the two main factions, but also between smaller rebel groups that have splintered off.

Some of these groups might not come to the table. How does Wakanda handle that? Do they send troops? Well, then they suddenly look like colonialists. Word will spread, and folks will wonder if they're really as great as they're cracked up to be. Wakanda has to make itself trusted, and that is really tough in a situation where no one really trusts each other.

I get that Wakanda has high technology, but you can't fix deep conflicts with that alone. And all this assumes that Sudan (Khartoum) doesn't interfere.

South Sudan's a hard case, I'll admit. Wakanda could do more to help out in places like Tanzania or Uganda, since those countries are relatively stable. Though Uganda's kind of used to being the big guy on the block, so some elements might feel threatened by Wakanda. I think Wakanda could bring their best foot forward and make it work, but they need to get this right.

The movie shows Wakanda coming out to help, and that's a good message. T'Challa's doing the right thing. But doing good on the world stage is a lot more complicated than it might seem, so I can understand why they were so cautious.
