That's cool obviously but I guess my question would be what, specifically, about slash fiction (as opposed to other kinds of romance stories) appeals to you?

Or is it just another source of romance stories?

Not OP
For me it's about the affection. Things seem to get a little better with each generation, but there's still a lot no-homoing and macho bro stuff and attitude
attitudes that make it not that common to see men be affectionate with each other. And that's my jam, straight or gay.

that's like the het-iest reading of slash I've ever seen.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
For real.

Not OP: I'm a hetero woman and love slash for the hurdle that comes with the territory: there's still a risk and a taboo to being gay today. The greater the hurdle: the better the catharsis in the end. This comes on top of the fact that two sexy guys are doubly as sexy as one, plus the traditional romance perks. I also like switcher-stories best, where the gender roles aren't already stuck to subject and object.

as a gay man, I find this sentiment... icky, to say the least.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
I cringe every time I see someone explain it like this. It's more common than one would think, in this day and age.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah but it's not really about you is it. No reason why someone's personal tastes should cater to your personal tastes.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Please do act like this is just about personal tastes.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone's personal tastes are their own business, but there's something uncomfortably voyeuristic about people who get off on fictional portrayals of prejudice they'll never face.

Het slash lover here: Absolutely. Baser urges are often unwelcome and uncomfortable, yet the lizard brain want what it wants. And this is why it is posted it anonymously here, because it would be way out of line to say out loud in person and good company.

AYRT I get that, and that's why I post it here anonymously, and not saying it to your face in RL. I don't think there's much wrong with fantasizing as long as I'm not forcing it on anybody. (And I bet you think about people in ways they wouldn't like had they known it too.)
