gay guys does not always = butt sex

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well, no. But in fanfic most do have anal sex.

That's cool obviously but I guess my question would be what, specifically, about slash fiction (as opposed to other kinds of romance stories) appeals to you?

Or is it just another source of romance stories?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP
For me it's about the affection. Things seem to get a little better with each generation, but there's still a lot no-homoing and macho bro stuff and attitude
attitudes that make it not that common to see men be affectionate with each other. And that's my jam, straight or gay.

Not OP: I'm a hetero woman and love slash for the hurdle that comes with the territory: there's still a risk and a taboo to being gay today. The greater the hurdle: the better the catharsis in the end. This comes on top of the fact that two sexy guys are doubly as sexy as one, plus the traditional romance perks. I also like switcher-stories best, where the gender roles aren't already stuck to subject and object.

Nah, you're not doing it wrong, OP. Sometimes I skip the sex scenes just to get to the cute parts or, if it's a good fic, the plot. And sometimes I have to skip them because they're not well-written. But slash doesn't always involve butt stuff.

Nah there's no right way to do fandom tbh, whatever you prefer is what's good for you and that's all there is to it.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'll do this when I'm reading fic that isn't about my OTP. If I'm not attracted to the guys I can still enjoy the romance, but not the sweaty naked parts. They're just boring.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same when it comes to oral on women. Needless to say, my femslash opportunities are quite few.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Weellllll you could always do what OP says that they do, and skip the sex scenes

Same!

God, saaaaaaame.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-28 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I've written it, but, sadly, I can't call it good...

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
It's interesting actually cus I was talking to a friend about this earlier and I'm interested to get other opinions. I don't know if I think this just because I myself am not a fan of anal sex between men (LOVE other forms of sex between men but anal doesn't do it for me)....

.... but two guys right who might ordinarily be straight and are only into one another - or just have bi curious or bisexual tendencies - which is the case with like 99% of slash pairings... I think it would be unlikely that they would just jump into bed with one another and have anal. I'm a girl so I cannot know what's in a guy's head - which is why I'm interested in what people think. I just think two guys who have never thought about anal fucking before would be unlikely to do it - the pain and preparation would surely be such a mood killer. More like just touching each other, mutual masturbation, sucking, frotting etc. But I love all those things so maybe it clouds my opinion.

Thoughts?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
I would agree with that idea.

On the other hand, a guy who's been dating women all his life could have tried receiving anal without a man involved and already know he's into it, but I'm never gonna come across that fic, am I?

In general, it's fiction, what's likely or unlikely really doesn't matter when people are extremely varied in sexual tendencies and it's not inconceivable what people could be up for. I find the whole Gay For You thing the least credible aspect of that scenario (not to mention I don't find it as common as you do), even if jumping right into anal sex would feel a bit rushed.

Speaking as someone who does the butt sex and depending on how you go about it there’s nothing gross about it. So maybe you are doing it wrong.

For some reason "sex involving butts" is making me imagine disembodied butts just kind of rubbing against each other.

I generally skim the sex in long, shippy fics because in a lot of cases, the author could have just written "AND THEN THEY DID IT" and the story wouldn't be missing anything.

Maybe anal isn't quite 99% of explicit slash fics, but it's in a lot of things, and so often it's written like it's following the same instruction manual. At least frottage has not being the same thing going for it.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
kek this reminds me of how I used to find rimming repulsive back in the early 2000s and now it's one of my favorite kinks. Hell, I found anal sex disgusting back in the day and, well, I certainly don't anymore. IRL, yes, but not in fiction.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
You're not "doing slash wrong". Peeps skip sex scenes for all sorts of reasons, yours is no less valid than any others.

I'm lowkey squicked by the idea of anal too, which if I'm lucky I can get distracted from while reading (depends on the skill of the author and how much I like the characters, mostly), plus it's frustratingly common in fic as The sex act for m/m couples.
Kinda strengthens my resolve to write, like, frottage or something. Just for some variety (and less of the squick).

(Anonymous) 2018-02-27 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
100% agree, OP. Nothing against people who do write anal sex, but some of us aren't into that. I've been skimming M/M anal intercourse scenes for decades now, but still dig the romantic bits, and even things like foreplay, oral, frottage, and rubbing dicks are all fine. Anal, though? DNW, but I'm content to skim (or skip) it and get back to what I enjoy reading when it's over. Post-sex cuddling makes me happy, too.
