Well, looks like you failed miserably, cause that one isn't an anime, it's an American cartoon. A very cool one, bun not anime.

It's probably close enough for OP's needs and there's no need to be rude about it.

But they specifically asked for Japanese animation, I assume they wanted to watch stuff from Japan.

I think, when people who aren't into anime ask for recs, they're probably not going to care about the formal genre definition

People who aren't anime geeks aren't necessarily purists about anime. OP seems content with their choice. Telling them they "failed miserably" is impolite and completely unnecessary. You don't give the impression that you're trying to help them out, you're giving the very strong impression that you responded just to sneer show off your superior knowledge.

It's okay, anon. I had the same thought.

Not that "Castlevania" is bad. I enjoyed it. But it's anime-style, not actual anime. If the OP wanted something truly Japanese which is along a similar vein as "Castlevania", I'd rec the "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" movie.

But OP will ignore that anyway, since I'm not writing a novel in defense of a movie that I enjoyed purely for visuals and loving the original '80's movie. :P

They did not specifically ask for 'japanese animation', they asked for anime, which can possibly include animation from other countries. It's not like we call it "japanime" anymore or anything.

I guess next time someone ask for manga recs I'll recommend them Scott Pilgrim, comics are comics. *facepalming hard*

Anime = Japanese animatiom.

IMO you should recommend people things that you think they'll like
