People sending fics/art/shipping things to creators/actors/writers/whatever. Just, no. Dumb and awful.

She was so embarrassingly naive about it and sincerely believed they'd be interested in reading a bunch of shippy fanfic because hey, they created the canon! The amount of butthurt when she realized that people thought she was a dimwit was epic.

Sounds ridiculous. I think the people who send it to the actual canon creators are even more ridiculous, though. People who send NSFW art, for example, to the Supernatural actors of their character. WTF?

I'm guessing it's about people who are really...not overly gifted with social skills and/or very sheltered when it comes to real life vs. fandom. I've seen it before - people who spend too much time in fandom start to think it's the whole world. They don't seem to understand that no, you can't usually brag to your boss about how well you did in your last exchange ir bring up kinkmemes in casual conversation with co-workers. They're not trying to be assholes, exactly, they're just really clueless.

I can get GEN fanart, like single characters or maybe very PG ship-art for a canon couple, because that isn't so bad.

But straight-up porn is a huge ball of 'what the fuck are you thinking??' because even if the actors/creators in question are okay with some fanart, you still don't send them that. Yes, yes the internet is for porn, but maybe don't @ the person playing the character you love with a picture of their face doing something nsfw. Just maybe.

I can get behind people showing actors/writers awesome gen art of their characters/stories. I've seen creators get really excited about fanart. If I were a good artist, I might try to show a writer my depiction of a kickass battle scene from their book, or a character study piece based on description given in the writing, but I wouldn't show them weird shippy stuff (I think the main canon couple doing some G-rated kissing would be fair game) or kink art or most kinds of AU, even tame stuff like modern/high school or rule 63.
