Come on everybody interracial doesn't mean just "black guys" :(

You're talking to a comm that's primarily slash-oriented, IDK what to tell you.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-03 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
That pretty much is what it means in common, everyday discourse, though, at least in the US. And that's not really the fault of anyone ITT. Like. Come on. Realistically, the fetishization of black men (and the various associated narratives) is by far and away the dominant element of "interracial" as kink.

In fandom I'd argue the fetishization of Asian men and women is far more common, but nobody wants to talk about it.

I'm not sure that I agree but I guess it kind of depends on what you mean by "fandom" and "fetishization". If what you have in mind by "fandom" is 4chan, for instance, then you have a point, but is that the kind of fandom that we're talking about here?

I'm taking fandom to mean all fandoms including movies, TV series, anime, manga, video games, and all that sort of fictional media.

I wouldn't feel it's accurate to call the people talking about their perfect kawaii anime waifus to be not part of fandom as a whole.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-03 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think there's a lot of different things that you can call "fandom". And on F!S, I tend to assume that we're talking about the subset of fandom that's generally defined by doing things like writing fic and shipping. Which is somewhat different from 4chan-kawaii-anime-waifus fandom (though not, obviously, mutually exclusive).

So there's a bunch of different groups that we can be talking about here. If we're talking about interracial kink as understood in society at large, then I would say that predominantly - at least in the US - that involves the fetishization of black men. If we're talking about kawaii-waifu anime fandom specifically, then yes, the most frequent fetishization is of Asian people (although not all of kawaii-waifu fandom is specifically about fetishizing based on race)(obviously some of it is, just not all). And if somebody mentions "interracial kink" in the context of shippy-fandom generally, I think it's not a unreasonable assumption to default to the general societal usage of the term. I guess.

My conclusion here is that language sucks.

Yeah, I get you that the term when used outside a fandom context predominantly means "black guys and white girls."

I just wanted to point out, when it is fandom, it's not a "fandom men from 4chan" only thing. I've seen plenty of fic authors in "female-dominated" animanga fandom writing fic that fetishizes Japanese people/culture for example.
