I do have a pet theory that ABO's gender inequality thing might be facilitated by the slash fandom in general's rare tendency to have strange hangups with gender, reproduction, and believing biotruths. Not everyone of course, because a lot of folks are just in it because two hot dudes getting together = hella hot, but I remember flipping through a lot of slash drama from folks that believed that women in stories were gross, annoying, hateworthy, etc., while male characters were Just Better For No Reason.
IDK where I'm going with this, other than listing my own musings I guess. I'm agreeing with you that while ABO could be seen as problematic in some way, I ultimately believe most mainstream people aren't into ABO so much as the social ramifications a strictly defined gendered world would have on social structure, so much as the knotting, heat kink, D/s etc. Eh. It's just mostly for getting off, honestly.
