I don't know, maybe it was because I was an English major, but I had a LOT more free time in college, even when taking 16-17 credit hours per semester. I read quickly and write exam papers quickly, and by my senior year I had maybe 2-3 classes a day, rarely anything that ran later than 4pm. Homework was manageable, and I never studied unless there was an exam coming up. I got SO MUCH reading and writing done that I really miss those days...
