The dub I look down on not particularly because there was no gay, but because they dumbed everything down (oh, no, we can't have an episode about one of the Cards impersonating Sakura's dead mother! we can't air that one it would make children sad!). And in a similar vein, they obviously felt they had to "protect" children from the icky hints that everybody in the world might not be completely heterosexual. The dub might be more "innocent," but from what I've seen it's entirely because they thought American children were idiots and naive and couldn't handle any issues at all.
(They also cut out some of Sakura's crush on Yukito/Julian, for some reason, which confused me. And Syaoran's "crush"/his attraction to Yukito/Julian's power being removed made his reactions to the other boy make no sense whatsoever the few times he just freaked out and ran away from him. LOGICKS, THEY DID NOT HAD IT.)
