[Grace and Frankie]

She's like the definition of an extremely liberal person. Not a surprising reaction.

Beside, they're roommates. I wouldn't be comfortable with my roommate getting a gun, even in that situation.

I could have written this secret in my sleep. The problem wasn't her extreme dislike/discomfort with guns, which is an ideological stance, but the way she refused to engage or talk to Grace at all about it. Instead she used her emotions as cudgel to avoid even listening to her friend. She was SCARED AND UPSET, and therefore she had to get her way immediately. Which is bullying, and kind of an abuse tactic.

Now, you might know liberal assholes who behave like that, because assholes come in all varieties, but that is not an inherent part of any political leaning. It felt to me a lot less than the "definition" of an extremely liberal person than like a bad stereotype. Grace and Frankie have both always been a little bit of that too, but this was one of the episodes that crossed the line for me.

I don't watch this show. But I would not want a gun in my house, and I would freak out about it if someone brought one.

Yeah, that would be a dealbreaker for me too, no matter how responsible they were.

Why? Honest curiosity as someone who grew up around gun owners and now owns one myself.

Because they scare me. Because the statistics say that you are more likely to shoot yourself or another non-threat than you are to actually be able to use it to defend yourself. And I don't want that in my house.

DA I would be freaked out if someone had a gun they didn't use for work or hunting, and if it wasn't stored properly unloaded in a gun safe. I also grew up around gun owners (rural area) and I think there's a big difference between people who actually use guns and people who "have" a gun.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-09 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I love Frankie, and that was a bit too much even for me. While I would never want to own a gun, I can respect other people's need to own one. If they'd be as rational and responsible as Grace here, I'd probably feel more safe than less.

I didn't like that, either. I get it - i wish every gun on the planet would just melt and vanish. But she was *way* over the top not only in her reaction but in how she treated Grace.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-09 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
But she's always childish and unreasonable.
