Most of the coverage I've seen has indicated that he was never going to write Batgirl and many people believe that was just an excuse to explain his presence as he was really there to fix Justice League. WB didn't want the bad press of firing their previous director and used the suicide as an excuse to save face. Now, they are again saving face by giving this as the excuse when JW was never going to write a Batgirl movie.
