I agree with this sentiment in general. Or its cousin, "That long running show is still on?" Yes, people are still enjoying it. It doesn't need to stop just because it's old. It doesn't need to stop just because you no longer like it. As long as there are enough fans to justify its existence to TPTB, it should still be on. If you don't like it, move on. Let the fans who still do like it enjoy the show.

I've never taken that question that way. More--genuine surprise. Most shows don't last as long. I still get surprised that Grey's Anatomy is still on. I've never seen a single episode, I don't know anything about the characters (there was maybe someone named Meredith?) and I'm not interested in ever trying it.

But now and then I get surprised because the name of the show, and the fact that it is on-going have been part of the background of media consumption for so, so long that it just catches me off guard. I don't think it's a bad thing, it's just been a long, long time.

There might be a few people who intend it like that but most of the time that I've seen it it's paired with derisiveness and snideness and comments about how it's past its prime and who could possibly still be enjoying it and it should have been canceled long ago and the writing is so stale (even though they're not even watching it any more) and they don't recognize anyone so all the worthwhile characters are gone and what's the point and the like.

Oh, for an end to a series that's been a perpetual source of wank and drama, not only in itself but inflicted on actors, showrunners, and people in other fandoms as well.
