Yup. If there are 10 fics for a book fandom, I know that I'll at least like 5 of them. If there are 1000 for an anime... chances are I'll like none. I think the only fandom I've ever found half-decent fic for is Hikaru no Go? (Not counting the odd one out for Naruto, Free! etc.)
But those are slash focused fics and not super plotty...

I think that's overstating it a bit ... most of the big anime fandoms have decent fic, and some of the smaller ones do too.

But I think everyone's right about the ratios. Anime fic just seems lower quality on average. Is it because the writers are younger? Is it the same reason Marvel slash has so much crap?

I think because reading books is not a prerequisite for being in a non-book fandom, yet reading books is mandatory for being a good fiction author. lol
