What media have you must recently gotten into?

I'm watching Shetland. I'd seen bits and pieces of it in the background when hubby watched it, but not all of it, and I'm just... floored. That show is fan-fucking-tastic.

I'm an American, and I've never gotten into American crime dramas, but British ones? WOW. The writing and acting are superb, like even the extras are spot-on, and there's... I dunno? More of a focus on the characters and their humanity and the way they're all interconnected? I've seen one season of Broadchurch and one of Happy Valley, and those blew me away, too.

not to be all The Wire, but: The Wire

Haven't tried that one, but the summary isn't grabbing me.

I think what I like about British crime dramas is they take place in small towns rather than big cities. It feels more intimate and personal and less procedural.

That's fair!

I've been meaning to watch that! Good to hear positive reviews of it.

There's DI Perez slash on AO3 if you're interested. ;)

Happy Valley is on my "to watch" Netflix list. Broadchurch S3 wasn't fantastic.

I love British crime dramas. If you haven't already tried it, Inspector Morse is a classic, and the prequel Endeavour is also excellent. There's also Lewis, which is a spin off. It's not as well known, but Unforgotten is incredibly well written and acted.

On the more humorous side, Midsomer Murders takes place mostly in picturesque country villages.

I've been trying to get into Fortnite. My sister plays it and loves it so all of us are trying. My siblings enjoy it a lot more than I do. I am terrible at shooting so while I have gotten second place many times (I am great at hiding), I will probably never win a round.

Empresses in the palace. I'm a sucker for shows with great costumes and sets.

Oooh, I live for good costuming. I'll have to look into this one.

The Alienist. I've been watching it from the beginning, but it hasn't been on all that long, so I'll count it as recent! It's really good. I like all the characters, although I especially like Sara (Dakota Fanning). I was busy last week, so I'm an episode behind.

I'm watching The Killing, the Danish original. I'm really enjoying it so far but I've only seen four episodes. I can't imagine how it's going to be sixteen more episodes of the same plotline, but I mean that in a good way.

You should check out The Bridge too when you're finished. It's a Swedish/Danish crime thriller in the same vein as the killing. Each season deals with a different crime, but they're always super dark and twisty in the best way possible.

I'm constantly blown away by how intense and gripping some of those Nordic dramas can be. It's like they're on a whole other level.

I loved the Bridge! I haven't watched the third season yet but I loved the first two and Saga is amazing.

Yay! Bridge fan. Saga is the greatest. :)

I just finished watching the 3rd series last week. I wasn't sure I'd enjoy it as much with a new partner/team but I loved it even more than the 2nd series. The actress who plays Saga is truly astonishing.
