Oh no, I’m definitely not advocating that people shouldn’t come forward about crime to protect a criminal’s privacy. My understanding of that situation had been that it took so long to break because it’s harder for male victims to come forward about sexual assault and be taken seriously than it was about anyone protecting Spacey’s decision to live as a closeted gay man, and I thought that when that part of the story broke — and Spacey released that statement about how he identified — it took attention away from the fact that, y’know, he was doing quid pro quo harassment as a creative director. I didn’t realize that The Advocate had enough to run a story a decade ago.
